What Is Citalopram?
Citalopram is a serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressant used to treat depression. Citalopram may also be used off-label (not an approved use by the Food and Drug Administration, or FDA) to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder, general anxiety disorder, binge eating disorder, premenstrual dysmorphic disorder (PMDD), alcoholism, and hot flashes associated with menopause. Citalopram works by helping restore the balance of the neurotransmitter serotonin in the brain.
