Tylenol 500 mg (acetaminophen) Extra Strength is used for temporary relief of minor aches and pains due to headache, muscle aches, backache, minor arthritis pain, the common cold, toothache, premenstrual and menstrual cramps, and it is also used to reduce fever.

Tylenol (acetaminophen) is an analgesic (pain reliever) and fever reducer. Tylenol 500 mg is considered “extra strength.”

Tylenol Extra Strength is used for temporary relief of minor aches and pains due to:

Headache
Muscle aches
Backache
Minor arthritis pain
The common cold
Toothache
Premenstrual and menstrual cramps

Tylenol Extra Strength is also used to temporarily reduce fever.

What Are Side Effects of Tylenol 500 mg?

Side effects of Tylenol Extra Strength (acetaminophen) include:

Nausea
Stomach pain
Loss of appetite
Rash (may itch)
Headache
Dark urine
Clay-colored stools
Yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice)

Serious side effects of Tylenol Extra Strength include:

Hives
Skin swelling (angioedema)
Disorientation
Low levels of red blood cells, white blood cells, and/or platelets
Shortness of breath
Cough
Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis)
Liver toxicity/liver failure
Stevens-Johnson syndrome
Toxic epidermal necrolysis
Gastrointestinal hemorrhage

Low platelet count (thrombocytopenia)
Low white blood cell count (leukopenia, neutropenia)

Tylenol Extra Strength (acetaminophen) may be acceptable for short-term use in all stages of pregnancy . Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant before using acetaminophen.
Tylenol passes into breast milk but is considered compatible with breastfeeding. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
